Wildfire Awareness Firefighter

Bokkie is the symbol of wildfire prevention in the Western Cape. Bokkie has appeared on posters, billboards, and other materials to spread the wildfire prevention message. The main goal of Bokkie’s wildfire awareness toolkit is to reduce the number of human-caused wildfires by promoting safe behaviour when using fire outdoors. The content in this toolkit also encourages a sense of personal responsibility for fynbos, forests, mountains and other wilderness spaces.

This wildfire safety programme contains a manual with guidelines for how to use the programme, an activity book and posters. It also includes suggestions for activities that reinforce the key wildfire safety and emergency preparedness messages. Teachers can use the manual, posters and activity book for one-to-one, small-group, or classroom instruction.
