Pilanesberg National Park is north of Rustenburg, in the North West Province. The Park is only three hours’ drive away from Johannesburg and borders Sun City. Pilansberg is one of the largest volcanic complexes in the world. It is set within the crater of an ancient volcano. The landscape and rock formations make Pilansberg a unique geological feature. A number of rare minerals occur in the park. Numerous Stone and Iron Age sites are scattered throughout the park. A variety of accommodation is available, as safari tents, camping and luxury game lodges. The park has a rich variety of wildlife, including the Big Five. More than 360 species of bird have been recorded. Popular attractions are Big 5, hot air-ballooning, day trips and Lost City at Sun City.
