In 2021 the newly appointed Head of Education, Mr Brent Walters announced that Foundation Phase will become a key priority of the Western Cape Department of Education. This decision was made to ensure that a solid foundation is laid in the early grades for all other phases to build on that. The foundation phase was then tasked to host a conference where teachers can be exposed to different subject methodologies and strategies to improve teaching and learning. Eight hundred Grade R to 3 teachers are targeted across all eight provinces. This is the biggest conference ever hosted by the General Education and Training Band (GET). Hundred and nine breakaways will take place across the two days with top presenters in the country.
