About Thenjiwe Kilani

I am Thenjiwe Kilani, married and with one child. She is indeed the “apple of my eye.” I am born and bred in Cape Town. I completed my schooling career at Hlengisa Primary and Langa High School.

I completed my Professional Diploma at Good Hope College of Education in 1991. I then felt that I needed to further my studies and enrolled at UNISA for my Junior degree. In 1996-1997, I completed and obtained my B Ed qualification at UCT , majoring in Management and Leadership Education.

I started teaching in 1991 and left the Education fraternity in 2006. I have taught in Foundation Phase for many years. New opportunities opened for me and held managerial positions as a Department Head and Deputy Principal. I was also afforded the opportunity of teaching in the Intersen and Senior Phase. Subjects taught were Mathematics, English and isiXhosa.

In 2007 I accepted a contract post at Head Office with Quality Assurance. In 2010 I accepted a permanent position with WCED as a Department Head. In 2014, was the year that I saw that I needed growth. I applied for and accepted the position as a curriculum Adviser at Metro North Education Department. I currently specialize in Foundation Phase Mathematics and IsiXhosa Home Language. Mathematics is a subject close to my heart and I do believe that all children can do Mathematics if the love for the subject is fostered at a young age.
