About Val Kohler
Val Kohler started her career in Education 40 years ago and had the privilege of teaching in different contexts. She holds an M.Ed. in Education from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology and her thesis focused on improving literacy in the Senior Primary Schools. She worked as a teacher in both private and public schools, teaching English.
She was seconded to the Provincial Education Department to develop a Guided Reading Programme that was implemented in all classrooms in the province. The National Department of Education employed her as a project manager to develop a Reading Toolkit for Grades R-3 in all official languages. She taught in the B.Ed. programme at Cape Peninsula University of Technology teaching Language in Education, Professional Studies, and Academic Writing. She was part of a research team at CPUT exploring the trajectory from informal to formal learning.
Val is currently employed as an Education Trainer at READ Educational Trust supporting teachers in language development with the view of improving the literacy levels in the province.
