About Leonie Jacobsen

Born to a family of educators and school leaders, Leonie followed in her fathers’ footsteps, studying BA Honours in Religious Studies and then did a post graduate qualification in Education with Afrikaans, Religious Studies and History as her three major subjects in pedagogy, at Stellenbosch University.

She worked in a vast diversity of schools, from the Western Province, the North West and the Eastern Cape Province. Moving back to the Western Cape in 2000, she joined Muizenberg High School. The school service a commuting school body, and the learners are drawn from up to 45 feeder schools in the neighboring communities. Here she found her niche in Education, and in school leadership.

Leonie developed collaborative projects with 21st century skills and global goals as outcomes, to transform the school from an ex-model C school to a globally competitive entrepreneurial educational model for a globalized South Africa, creating opportunities and access to break community and educational barriers by engineering change. She became strategically involved in the school leadership team shortly after she joined the school and became the principal in 2017.

During her tenure as a school principal, Leonie used the opportunity to create a legacy of inclusive, equal and collaborative networks, locally and internationally to offer students the opportunities to produce significant achievements and possibilities. She joined the district management team in 2022, when she had the opportunity to support the 25 schools in her care. This gave her an insight in the challenges school leaders across the levels face on a daily basis. In January 2023 she was seconded to become the Acting Head of the newly found Leadership Academy at The Cape Town Leadership institute. In this position she drives the structures that will build skills, knowledge and competencies for school leaders and will foster innovation and collaboration through partnerships and creative communities of practice
