English Home Language for Grade 2 focus on five components namely Listening & Speaking, Phonics & Spelling, Reading, Handwriting and Writing. This is done through songs, rhymes, stories, oral discussions as well as written activities. The key focus is on getting a learner to speak, read and write in the language.

English First Additional Language strengthens the Home Language. Focus in this subject will be on Listening & Speaking and Reading (Phonics & Comprehension). For Grade 2 the key focus will be on Listening and Speaking, to be taught through stories, rhymes and songs, but in Grade 2 Reading and Writing will also get a specific focus.

Maths teaches us how to apply our thinking to solve problems; numerical problems and, as we grow older, the logical and analytical thinking that Maths teaches us will help us to solve other problems. Life Skills is the backbone to teaching and learning in Foundation Phase, It encapsulates all foundational skills which is imperative to learn to read, write, (perceptual development) reason and think critically. It focusses on the holistic development of the learner. Namely, cognitively, emotionally, physically, intellectually, socially and aesthetically.
