The combination of any two or more individual components is referred to as an assembly. All multi-component devices are made up of individually designed parts that fit together to form a functional unit. An assembly drawing shows how these individual components combine to form the finished product. Assembly drawings allow the design engineer to communicate exactly and unambiguously the shape, size and position, of every feature of a product to everyone, from the manufacturer down the assembly line to the consumer.
