Time Travel Misadventures (Seasons 1 and 2)

About the podcast: I am a qualified palaeontologist and writer, as well as an educator, and I’ve published a freely available podcast for grade 4 to 6 learners, which introduces various parts of the curriculum (e.g. fossils, history of life on earth, researching the past, ecology, rock types, life cycles, food chains, climate change, extinction events, the stone age, ancient Rome etc.).

About the story: This audio adventure for 9 to 12 year olds tells the story of three children who live in the mysterious, fossil-rich Karoo, and time travel into the past using a magic stone. I have introduced novel information on palaeontology, archaeology, natural history, and history into the story, endeavouring to mix this so thoroughly with adventure and humour that listeners don’t notice they are learning. My objective is to engender a love of the natural world (past and present), and an understanding of how scientists unravel the past.

Two seasons of Time Travel Misadventures are available:

Season 1: Where’d you get that dinosaur?

Season 2: Where’d you get that amulet?

About season 1: After some scarily close-calls the children end up hatching a dinosaur egg on their farm. Will they be able to cope with Sunny (who is a carnivorous dinosaur) and keep her safe and secret? Expect close-encounters in the Jurassic, close shaves in the stone age, earthquakes, cute scruffy dogs, not-so-cute sabre tooth cats, and lots, lots more! During the course of the story the children visit the Permian and Jurassic periods, the Middle Stone Age, and the Roman town of Pompei.
