"Skeleton Dry has been influenced by a myth from Namibia, about the Skeleton Coast. It is believed that once one gets there one will not return. It is also said that though it is uninhabitable, there is evidence of habitation, footprints and fossils from the distant past," said Maqoma.

This evidence spurred the artist on to a path of research about human decomposition, to the point where flesh is no more and bones become fossils.
