It's cameras returned more than 25,000 pictures. The mission aims were reached, namely to search for environments suitable for microbial life and to research the history of Matian water. Phoenix completed its mission in August 2008. The last brief communication was with Earth on November 2, as available solar power permitted. Mars Odyssey tried unsuccessfully to make contact during the Martian summer in 2010. It was then officially declared dead.
