About Gouwa Ebrahim

Graduating with a qualification in speech therapy and audiology from the University of Cape Town in 1998, Gouwa Ebrahim embarked on a career driven by passion and commitment to supporting children with communication and learning challenges. In 1999, faced with limited job prospects in South Africa, she dedicated her time to voluntary work at the Deaf Child Centre and Eros School for Learners with Cerebral Palsy. This experience led to employment at Eros School, where she served for seven years and eventually became the Head of the Speech Therapy Department from 2000 to 2007.

She further enhanced her expertise by obtaining an Advanced Certificate in Education in School Management and Leadership Development in 2010. From 2009 to 2012, In 2013, she assumed the role of Therapy Coordinator at the Metro Central Education District Office, where she currently manages a multidisciplinary team of 64 therapists, including speech therapists, audiologists, occupational therapists, and physiotherapists. Additionally, she contributes to Stellenbosch University by supervising third-year students and delivering lectures on the assessment and management of phonological awareness difficulties and language-based reading difficulties.
