About Mr. Bertram J Loriston:

Born in Paarl and completed his primary schooling in Paarl and his high school education at Spes Bona SS in Athlone. Completed his undergraduate studies at the University of the Western Cape and pursued and completed his postgraduate studies at the University of Stellenbosch. He commenced his teaching career at New Orleans SS in Paarl about 34 years ago. He continued his career at Desmond Mpilo Tutu HS in Mbekweni (Wellington) where he taught Physical Sciences, Mathematics, and Biology and moved through all the ranks of school management as a committed server to education.

He joined the school-based office staff of the WCED in 2005 and held various positions; IQMS Co-ordinator at the West Coast Education District, Provincial IQMS co-ordinators at Head Office, Whole School Evaluation supervisor, Deputy- Director Human Resources Development, Circuit Manager in Eden and Central Karoo and District Director of Overberg Education District. He was seconded to the Head office in 2019, held the portfolio of Director Examinations Administration, and was appointed Chief Director of Assessment and Examinations in 2021. Currently he holds the position of Deputy Director-General: Curriculum and Assesment Management.
