Biography of Dr. Brian Wilson

About Dr. Brian Wilson:

Dr. Brian Adam Wilson (PhD; MSc; HDE) is a seasoned educator, biologist, and curriculum specialist with over four decades of experience in science education and academic leadership. He holds a BSc and MSc in Zoology from the University of the Western Cape, where his postgraduate research focused on reptilian limb degeneration and amphibian sperm physiology. He earned his PhD in Physiology in 1994, investigating fertilization environments and their influence on anuran sperm structure. He also holds a Higher Diploma in Education (cum laude) from UNISA, specializing in Historical Pedagogics.

Dr. Wilson began his teaching career in 1981 and quickly rose through the ranks, serving as Head of Department and acting Deputy Principal before transitioning into teacher education. From 1987 to 1997, he led the Natural Sciences Department at Söhnge College of Education, training future science teachers. He later served as Senior Subject Adviser and ultimately Head of Curriculum Support for the Cape Winelands Education District, where he led teacher development and curriculum implementation until his retirement in 2020.

A respected scholar, Dr. Wilson has presented and published extensively in the fields of zoology, physiology, herpetology, and science education, both locally and internationally. He has also contributed as an external examiner, mentor for postgraduate students, and supporter of community and sports initiatives.
