Biography of Ms. Annamarie Lamprecht

About Ms. Annamarie Lamprecht:

I am passionate about teaching and mentoring in culturally diverse environments. In my free time, I enjoy reading in English and Afrikaans, creative writing, poetry, sketching, painting, cooking, and baking. Walking along the beach with mountain views is another favourite way to relax and reflect.

With over 43 years of experience in education, I have built a career marked by a strong commitment to learner support, teacher development, and curriculum innovation. I began my teaching journey in Pretoria Gauteng after completing four years of study to qualify as a Foundation Phase teacher. For 16 years, I taught Grades 1 to 3, during which I encountered learners with a range of educational needs. This experience led me to pursue further studies, including a Diploma in Minimal Brain Dysfunction through CEFT and an Honours B-Ed Degree in Education.

I later taught a multi-grade remedial class for Grades 1 to 3, before transitioning to the InterSen Phase, where I taught English, Afrikaans, Mathematics, and Social Sciences to learners in Grades 4 to 7. These lessons were delivered using English as the Language of Learning and Teaching (LoLT), and I consistently adapted my teaching methods to meet diverse learner needs.

After 29 years in the classroom, I advanced to a district-level role as a Senior Education Specialist for Languages (English and Afrikaans) with the Gauteng Department of Education. I served as a Curriculum Advisor in the Tshwane West District for 14 years until my retirement in 2023. In this role, I provided training and ongoing support to Intermediate Phase teachers in implementing the Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statement (CAPS) across Grades 1 to 9. I also facilitated teacher development through national and provincial initiatives such as GPLMS, CiPELT, PSRIP, and COELT. My contributions included translating various learner materials and teacher guidelines from English to Afrikaans to ensure accessibility and inclusivity. At the provincial level, I contributed to the development of key educational resources, including:

  • GDE Language Strategies Guidelines for Teachers
  • ANA Revision Booklet
  • GDE Intermediate Phase Booklet (CAPS)
  • Catch-Up Lesson Plans (ATP Coverage for Grades 4 to 6)
  • Gauteng Reading Improvement Plan

At the national level, I participated in the Department of Basic Education’s Learning and Teaching Support Material (LTSM) screening for primary schools and contributed to the national catalogue in 2012. Additionally, I was involved in the DBE National Assessment team, versioning Diagnostic Test Items for Grade 9 Afrikaans Home Language. As a registered Assessor and Moderator with ETDP SETA, I have moderated Grade 6 assessment tasks. I also participated in the development of phonics materials for Grades 1 to 3 as a member of the 2023 DBE Task Team. Throughout my career, I have also promoted language and literacy through various enrichment activities. I coordinated Spelling Bee competitions at school, district, and provincial levels, and served as a Pronouncer and Adjudicator for the ATKV Spelathon for Grades 6 to 9. In addition to my work in education, I contributed as a reviewer for the Oxford Afrikaanse Skoolwoordeboek (Grades 4–9) and maintain an ongoing professional relationship with Oxford University Press as a freelance trainer.
