
Biography of Mr. Simon Speelman

About Mr. Simon Speelman:
Mr. S. Speelman began his journey in education by completing his teaching training at Athlone College of Education in Paarl, in 1988. He started his teaching career in 1989 at Roodezandt Secondary School in Saron. In 1990, he was appointed as a multigrade teacher at The Glebe E.K. Primary School in Myddleton, near Caledon, and in 1994, he became the principal of the same school. From 2003 to 2006, Mr. Speelman served as a facilitator for the WCED Khanya Project and later as an Implementation Project Manager from 2006 to 2011. In 2012, he was appointed as principal of L.R. Schmidt Moravian Primary School in Genadendal, where he successfully transformed a dysfunctional school into a functional and thriving learning environment. His leadership excellence was recognized in 2014 when he was named the provincial winner of the National Teaching Awards for Excellence in Primary School Leadership.
In 2023, Mr. Speelman was appointed as Deputy Chief Education Specialist for Management and Governance in the Overberg Education District. Throughout his career, he has pursued ongoing professional development, completing various training and short courses at Stellenbosch University, including Project Management and the Advanced Certificate in Education (ACE). His career reflects a deep commitment to educational leadership, innovation, and school improvement.
