About Almaret Du Toit
Almaret started her teaching career in 1987 at Hexvallei High School, De Doorns in 1987 where she taught various grades in Foundation Phase over a period of 26 years. In 2011 she was winner of the National Teaching Awards in the Category “Excellence in Primary School Teaching” in the Western Cape. She won third place nationally in this category. Almaret was also part of the school management team at the school until 2012 when she accepted a position as subject adviser at the Cape Winelands district Office.
From 2011 to 2014 Almaret was involved at national level with the versioning, quality assurance and editing of the Annual National Assessments (ANA). She was also appointed as Chief Marker and Moderator for the ANAs from 2011 to 2014. Furthermore she formed part of the development team for the development of the Early Grade Reading Assessments for English First Additional Language.
In 2017 Almaret was appointed as Deputy Chief Education Specialist for Afrikaans and English Home Language. In 2018 she was appointed as Chief Education Specialist for Foundation phase within the Western Cape Education Department.
Almaret also shares a passion for sport and was a national coach in netball in 2005, 2009 and 2011. In 2010 to 2012 she was also part of the research project for Long term participant development(LTPD) in conjunction with SASCOC and NSA to develop and implement a LTPD netball programme for schools.
Almaret is the Founder of Brave Heart Home, a place of safety for children ages 0 – 12 years old. The home is situated in De Doorns.
