About Tholisa Matheza
Tholisa Matheza is proactive, approachable, dedicated and reliable person with experience as a teacher and passionate advocate for early childhood education. She is currently working as an Education Specialist at the Schools Development Unit (SDU) within the School of Education at the University of Cape Town. With over a decade of classroom experience as an Intermediate Phase teacher, she has dedicated her career to improving foundational learning outcomes, particularly in language and mathematics. Her professional journey includes coordinating the Children's Literature Programme at the National Library of South Africa and later serving as Programme Manager at the Nal'ibali Trust, where she contributed to national literacy development efforts.
In her current role at the SDU, she leads the implementation of the Grade R Mathematics Programme in Gauteng Province, supporting teachers in developing strong numeracy foundations. She also facilitates Advanced Certificate in Teaching (ACT) courses in language, develops and offers short courses aimed at enhancing language pedagogy.
