About Zaida van der Berg

My journey as an educational professional began with a passion for improving learning for all learners. I have focused on developing and implementing WCED-quality assurance practices in grade R institutions, shaping both my career and belief in the transformative power of education. I have taken on a variety of responsibilities to elevate educational quality, including training grade R educators in the quality management system (QMS). My background as a curriculum advisor provided me with the knowledge necessary for performance measurement and developmental activities. I have provided strategic direction and operational support, guiding schools in creating, monitoring, and implementing differentiated school improvement plans (SIP. My training equipped me to analyse evaluation and diagnostic test results, set targets, and draft action plans focused on data-driven decision-making.

Additionally, I have offered guidance on labour law, strategic planning, and leadership by collaborating with school management teams (SMT) and School Governing Bodies (SGB) to create structured business plans and facilitating needs-based training courses. One career highlight was managing the induction of new principals and deputy principals in the Overberg district, where I built networks with community groups and emphasized collaboration in education. My commitment to empowering educators and improving literacy and numeracy, while ensuring the safety of educational institutions, has been unwavering. Currently, as a lead evaluator for the Western Cape School Evaluation Authority (SEA), I conduct evaluations, ensure compliance, support school improvement, and engage stakeholders. Reflecting on my career, I take pride in my positive impact on education and remain dedicated to enriching the lives of learners and empowering educators.
